Field guide 01 · Writing

Find the proof
inside the work.

A strong bullet does not decorate a duty. It names what changed, the scale of the work, and the result you can defend.

The formula

Action + object + scope + outcome

Not every bullet needs all four pieces. Every bullet should still tell the reader what you actually did. Add numbers only when you know where they came from.

01

Recover the action

Ask: what did I build, change, deliver, improve, reduce, organize, or decide? Replace “responsible for” with the action you performed.

02

Name the object

State what the action affected: onboarding, inventory, hiring, reports, customer requests, a production line, or a release process.

03

Expose the scope

Scope can be team size, customers served, regions covered, projects delivered, deadlines met, or the frequency of the work.

04

Trace the outcome

Use a verified result: time saved, defects reduced, revenue protected, response time improved, adoption increased, or a clear operational change.

Fictional anatomy

One sentence. Four jobs.

The line remains useful even if a reader scans only the opening action and final result.

Led redesign of the customer onboarding flow, raising activation by 24% across 18,000 monthly sign-ups.

When no metric exists

Do not manufacture one.

Use verifiable scope or consequence instead: delivered before a fixed deadline, coordinated three teams, created the first documented process, or made a service available in a new region.

Interview test

Can you explain the line?

Be ready to describe the baseline, your contribution, the measurement source, and what happened next. If you cannot, narrow the claim.

Test one line now.

The checker looks for the same published action and outcome signals used in the studio.
